Artist's Comments

This is one of the assignments done for Observational drawing about shading and light. I chose the monkey on the cover of National Geographics magazine. Although you can't see it from my drawing, he's smiling and he's pretty cute although the roommate thinks he's a little creepy. This was done by way of a grid, which helps keep things more accurate but I think it's too technical for my tastes.
On terms of my own satisfaction regarding this picture, I would say I was afraid of overdoing the crazy shadows on this lil guys face. I like the way it turned out but it could definately have been done better. Perhaps if I had more confidence about where the shadows should have been placed, I would be happier with it.

On a side note, this is just a little something to let my few watchers out there know that I am alive and will be submitting art. Thanks for looking!

Ha ha, I have a grid of shading EXACTLY like that, except mine is like 10 different swatches of shades.... Great job though, thought I was honestly looking at a picture of a monkey at first.
